The body of a local BJP leader was found hanging from a tree in Nidhirampur village of Bankura district on Wednesday. Tension has spread in the village after the dead body was found. The deceased has been identified as Subhadeep Mishra. He had contested Panchayat elections in West Bengal. His family members said he was missing for the last seven days and his body was seen hanging from a tree in the area on Wednesday morning. His hands were tied.
When the police reached the spot to recover the body, local BJP MLA Chandana Bauri of Saltora assembly constituency started an agitation and refused to hand over the body to the police. Refusing, Bauri lay down in front of the police vehicle. Opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari claimed that Mishra was murdered because local goons associated with the ruling Trinamool Congress were scared of the deceased BJP leader's growing popularity in the area.
The opposition leader also demanded that the role of Bankura district superintendent of police Vaibhav Tiwari in this case should also be investigated. He said that the district police are nothing but Trinamool Congress cadre. His only job is to ensure that Trinamool Congress continues to exist for as long as possible. I demand a CBI inquiry. The police will try their best to tamper with the evidence to please their political masters and protect the culprits associated with the ruling Trinamool.
